This may just be a false positive, but McAfee VirusScan Enterprise + AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.8 (as installed and mandatory by my employer, definitions updated today) throws up an alert when trying to install Cornice 0.6.1.4 today. (Been a while since I updated my PortableApps...) Here is the report:
Date and Time: 12/6/2011 14:16:46
Name: C:\Users\cdelliott\AppData\Local\Temp\nspD173.tmp\CornicePortable_0.6.1.4.paf.exe\166.nsis
Detected As: Artemis!1D9C259AEC31
State: Deleted
Can someone who knows more about detecting trojans check this archive and let me know if it's safe to temporarily disable McAfee when installing? Thanx.
FWIW, I just checked and I do have v0.6.1.3 installed, and as I recall McAfee didn't peep when that installed...
It's a false positive. Artemis isn't an actual detection of a virus. It's a guess of could this possibly be a virus. And it's wrong quite a lot. You'll need to report it to McAfee for them to fix it. They have issues like this a couple times a month as of late.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I thought as much. I'll check with our IT people here on how to report false positives to McAfee. After a quick look at their site I don't see a way to report things w/o signing up for an account...
Thanx for the quick response.
We have a page listing the information on how to report false positives for most of the anti-virus vendors in common use: https://portableapps.com/node/21968
On that page, there is a link to McAfee's instructions for submitting a false positive: https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1041
Hope that helps
