is there a way to manually modify the position of the app list. i want to move the app list to a few pixels to the right

We haven't completed custom themes yet but will allow repositioning of elements at that point.

If you want to ensure you know about it, just follow the RSS feed and/or set your platform for the beta channel. I think custom themes may make their way into 11.0, the first beta of which could be as soon as the end of this month.
