Upgrade to PortableApps.com

U3 was discontinued a few years ago. You can upgrade your stick by uninstalling U3 and then installing the PortableApps.com Platform. Then you can add apps from the app store (Apps - Get More Apps).

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Or.... just combine U3 and PA

Although John makes a fine point, I've been using U3 and PA in unison. U3 gives me a (albeit limited) layer of protection by asking for my password and then automatically loads the PA platform. You shouldn't use U3 for anything more than that.
You can make a shortcut in the U3 menu to PA and have it run automatically. Both the U3 software and how to create a custom shortcut in the U3 menu are on the web. However, if you cannot get it to work, I might me able to help out. Let me know how it goes.

Not that safe

It's remarkably easy to crack it, with U3 Tool.

Not to mention you can't use your password-enabled drive on a mac.

I know

I know the security is limited (as I indicated in my post). However for someone not well versed in IT it can still be a bitch to crack. It's also not my only form of protection. Encryption and not placing any sensitive material on the drive are my other ways.

Two options

If you still have U3 on your drive u3dude this may help:

If you have uninstalled U3 then simply load the PortableApps Suite to it.

https://portableapps.com/

If you still have the U3 CD drive on it but formatted the writable portion you will have to reinstall U3 to then be able to completely uninstall it and it's CD drive or use it with PortableApps.
