Google Chrome - extensions & reopen last session

I am currently using version 16.0.912.63 from the HD of a Win XP Pro SP3 machine.

I seem to have lost the ability to install extensions. I have a few installed from previously, I think from an older version of Chrome. Currently when I try to install a new one from the Chrome Web Store it says "checking" then offers a dialog box to "install" and then nothing happens. This has happened with at least two different extensions. Any help appreciated!

Chrome used to open with an offer to re-open the previous browsing session. I cannot find that anywhere now. Did I miss the announcement? Wink Does anyone know how to get it back?

My installation path starts with: D:\download\Software\PortableApps-installedapps if that is an issue.

Thanks,
JK

The most recent update cost

The most recent update cost me all of my Chrome extensions; I can re-install them all, but the next time I start Chrome Portable, they're nowhere to be found. This causes me to have to re-install every extension I use every time I run Chrome through Portable Apps now. Also, I have my Chrome set to remember the last pages up, and I always get a blank homepage when starting it; never what I was last looking at. Oddly, my cookies are all in place, as are all my saved passwords.

This is sort of a problem.

Exiting improperly

Issues like this can be caused by closing Google Chrome Portable and ejecting your drive soon after. The launcher needs to handle Google Chrome's data (e.g. copying it to your flash drive, deleting it's old files from the host computer, etc) and it takes a few seconds, depending on how much Data you have, for Google Chrome Portable to close completely. (It takes about 20 seconds for me, considering that I have lots of history and extensions).

I suggest installing a fresh copy of Chrome Portable and see if you can avoid that problem afterwards.

It's not an ejection issue...

since I am using it off a hard drive. It may be improper closing though. I have found that it often starts with a "closed unexpectedly" or "closed improperly", not sure which. I have also noticed that it often leaves an icon in my system tray, even after closing. I have sometimes remembered to right click and exit that. The icon has not shown up recently however. I will try installing the latest stable.
Thanks.

Extensions now working

I downloaded and installed the latest stable version. I can now add extensions. When I started it I again got the message that Chrome had closed improperly and did I want to open the last session. I said yes and I think I got back the tabs from the last session.

I will let you know what happens in a reload following a computer shutdown.

and it loads

Successfully launched Chrome after as shutdown without generating an error. Also found a drop down item in the lower right corner for recently closed tabs, which allowed me to reopen the last browsing session.

There is a new problem, though. Text on Portableapps.com, in particular, is now very ugly. The line weights on the letters vary. This is not uniformly happening across the web. This message for example, shows up fine while I am typing it, but gets mangled when I save it and it is displayed in the message thread window.

That's an issue with Chrome

That's an issue with Chrome rendering the new site font under certain circumstances - depending on windows fonts rendering settings. See details on this issue and a solution for Chrome here.

Thanks

I implemented the suggestions in the thread you cited. Clear Type works very well. Standard improved the situation but not completely. I have posted in the referenced thread as well.
Thanks!

I undid the changes

Other windows looked worse with the change implemented. I went back to unchecking the box.
