I just updated from jPortable 6 Update 30 to Update 31.
Update 30 worked perfectly in Firefox, Chrome, and Opera. In fact I was excited because Update 29 only worked in Firefox and Chrome for me. But, I updated to the new Update 31 and it stopped being recognized as a plugin for all 3 browsers.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Running Portable FF 10.0.1 with Jportable 29 up to this morning, when the update was suggested. After the autoupdate I went to http://java.com/es/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1 to test the install and FF said "Missing plugins required". I then tried to manually install Jportable after deleting it and everything installed normally, but still no success.
I'm going back to 29 until this is fixed. Can I help in any way?
I have had the exact same problem. Post my update of jPortable to update 31, Firefox and Chrome both sent messages that the plugin is missing.
I tried a totally fresh install of Chrome and jPortable on a friend's machine. In that case the message was that the plug-in was out of date. When I clicked on the option to allow it to run anyway it did run, but the out-of-date message is clearly an error of some sort.
This is due to Oracle renaming a directory and the various launchers looking for the original directory name. Looks like we need to push out revisions. This would affect any apps that are hard-code to look for the original value. I'll post a list shortly for reference.
[EDIT] @ JTH: Here's the difference:
6u30: Java\bin\new_plugin
6u31: Java\bin\plugin2
I'm having the same problem.
Tried creating the folder plugin2 with the same content as the new_plugin folder - of course id didn't work
Still can't figure out how to fix it.
If you try to rename the folder Java\bin\plugin2 to Java\bin\new_plugin you run into the problem that there is already a file in Java\bin named "new_plugin" (no file type extension) which Windows XP, in its infinite wisdom, does not distiguish from the folder named "new_plugin".
I run into this issue once in a blue moon.
The more fun comes when actually new_plugin file without the extension
is the renamed file msvcr71.dll!
See for youself
It's quite normal for file systems to require file names to be unique between files and directories. I'm not aware of any file system in which it isn't true. (No one has ever done it because it just doesn't make sense as a working model.)
If it weren't required, trailing slashes/backslashes would become mandatory for directories; a path like X:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java\bin\new_plugin would need to refer to the path and X:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java\bin\new_plugin\ to the directory.

Does deleting the file new_plugin, renaming the folder from plugin2 to new_plugin, and then copying msvcr71.dll and nsdeployJaval.dll to the new_plugin directory work for everyone?

The JRE is then detected by Firefox, but is not detected when you visit the java test page.
I have a fix working that will post tomorrow. I'm trying to avoid needing to re-release all our browsers, but it may require that to ensure full compatibility.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you guys do to make PortableApps work. It can't be easy when something like this changes how multiple apps are working with each other. You guys do really awesome work and I wanted you to know how much it is appreciated.
Just here to confirm that the jPortable 6 Update 31.1 and Firefox Portable 10.0.2 are working smooth together!
John and all guys, thank you very much for all the hard work you're doing!

Chrome 20.0.1115.1 doesn't work with 31.1 installed.
Hi,
I am using a laptop from my boss. I do not have admin-privileges.
I've got jPortable and FFP both installed on the harddrive in X:\Data\MyName\PortableApps. In Explorer this is what I see:
X:\Data\MyName\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java
and
X:\Data\MyName\PortableApps\FireFoxPortable
The Java testpage, however, says Java is not installed.
How can I solve this?
