Eject problem ?

I don't use the language bar on my laptop so I have it hidden.

When I use the eject feature of the platform my language bar shows up for about 1 second ( in the system tray ) before the platform is actually ejected.

Is this normal ?

Just me then ?

I suppose that it's just me judging by the lack of replies.

It happens

I've seen it happen on my Vista laptop a number of times with other programs. Nothing to worry about in my opinion.

I put the language bar on hide anyways now.

I hide mine

I have mine hidden as well.

I was just wondering why it shows up during the menu eject.
It never shows up any other time.
No big deal it's just puzzling me.

Not Just You

Weird Issue for me. Ejects fine on my Dell laptop...but on my Lenovo laptop wont eject.

I've somewhat deduced that there is something holding onto a process on my flash drive on the Lenovo...maybe virus software or a process not shutting down on the drive. Checking my task manager one by one...but as you can imagine thats a pain staking process of identifying/research/trial&error

Would love anyone elses thoughts.

Unlocker

Try the software called Unlocker and see what is locking the drive.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Same here

I have the same problem.

Sometimes I can't eject because a program is still using the device.

Unlocker cannot find a locking handle.

Process Explorer

Try Process Explorer and use the Find\Find handle or dll... function. Search for "g:" or whatever drive the USB currently uses. It always shows me which programs are using the device. End those processes.

With me, when it won't eject it's usually a .exe from windows that supports special languages/characters or something. Safe to end any-ways.

No joy

Well I tried it and nothing found, whatever is still using the platform is very elusive.

EDIT:- Just tried a program called Lockhunter and that said " no process is locking the drive"

It still wont eject, keep saying a prog is using the drive.

hmmmm

Do you have a Windows Explorer window open showing the drive or it's contents?

No

Nothing at all open.

It doesn't do it all the time.

For instance I have just used the platform and it ejected without any trouble.

But the next time I use it it might not eject.
That's what's puzzling me. If it was happening all the time I could probably find out what's causing it.

Opened files

Are you viewing any files that reside on the USB drive?

I had a problem when I was using the locally installed version of Firefox to view an html page I had stored on the USB drive. Even though I had closed the tab that had showed that page, the browser never released the lock it had been holding. I got used to closing out the Firefox copy totally before successfully ejecting the USB drive.

Nothing

Nothing at all open, no windows,no programs.

As I said it doesn't happen all the time but when it does no matter which way I try to find out what's locking it nothing shows up.

I then end up yanking it out, the next time I plug it in I have to go through the "scan and fix" routine which is pointless because nothing is ever wrong with the drive.

Shut down

If you have control over the pc, you can always eject after shutting it down. At least you can be sure nothing is wrong.

Try exploreing a fixed drive deeply before trying to eject

I have had problems with ejecting sometimes even though I was certain nothing was running or open on the flash drive. Eventually I found that if I drilled down deep into the folder structure of a local fixed drive, that suddenly the flash drive could be ejected! (Which proves there was nothing open or running).

Don't ask me why! I guess that there might be some reference being kept to a file on the flash drive in order to allow a "back" or "undo" command to be executed (in Windows Explorer for instance). And once you drill deep enough into a local drive it finally has to forget the reference it was keeping!
