How do I turn off automatic updating of Skype?

Greetings,

How do I turn off automatic updating of Skype Portable? Without asking me, Skype Portable silently downloads a new version of itself then proudly announces that it has installed said download without my permission. This is annoying as it clogs my connection for use on other tasks.

Mid-last year, I also had Skype Portable attempting to install itself onto the host computer that I was using which caused no end of grief.

(Before anyone asks just remember; not everyone is on 'all you can eat' internet connections)

This has happened on all versions in the 5.0.0 onwards branch.

Many thanks,

Update Yourself

You can update yourself from here. We release new versions before Skype pushes them out via auto-update. If you run our platform, you can be sure and be notified automatically. You should always be running the latest version of Skype for security reasons.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I want to _stop_ Skype from updating

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I want to turn off Skype auto updating. I don't want Skype downloading and updating when I don't want it to. I want to _stop_ Skype updating.

Thanks again,

not 100% possible

but it should ask you when trying to update and then simply decline that and this will keep the updater for some days off, how long I was not able to discover.

However one can not do it for ever.

My mother insisted on using some older version, but while opening the skype she received one day a message, that her skype account is blocked until she installs the current version.

In other words, if you do not update within some time, they simply kick you out of the network.
