So I think I messed up my computer.

Hello, well you all seem like very tech and Pc savy folk. You see I was having trouble with a portable app and accessing the "Applications Data" Folder in my computer, (I'm obviously not as tech savy, who knew all i needed to do was click "Show hidden folders"

Anyway, what happend was that I was trying to get the folder to show up so on

C:Docs and settings/~

The ~ symbol being my account name, i right click and fiddled with read only, hidden etc, AND then i "accidently" click on the sharing tab and then on "Make this folder private" so this box comes up saying its doing something to permissions and I accidently clicked cancelled, so I checked and unchecked it, trying to get it back to normal.

I then open my fire fox and I get a bunch of messages saying that a file can't load because I need to check my permissions, and that i need to set my permissions because of a problem with a security cache?

If anybody can help, pleasse let me know, becuase I can't reformat, my life is on my pc, I do digital recording on it, (props to the audcity app!) anyone though?

Oh and now I can't access streaming video, it says that the folder is on another computer and can't access the network!!!

Since this has nothing to do

Since this has nothing to do with portable apps, I'm a good candidate to answer.

You are not tech savvy, but your life is on your computer. You sir NEED to do some googling and read about disk backups and storage backups. Then, never ever right click something and check boxes unless your sure of what your doing.

Now go back to your "documents and settings" folder and right click it. Uncheck "make this folder private". click apply, and wait till it finishes. Then do the same for "share this folder on the network". never share this folder. Do you have wireless internet? Now recheck how firefox works for you.

This is a PORTABLE firefox forum, not a firefox forum. I reccommend you head over to www.hardforum.com for your basic PC troubleshooting needs.

Best of luck to you, no harm intended.

This

should have been posted in the off-topic forum anyway.
I always check boxes that I don't know about. That's how you learn Wink
