how long

I have made the same observation, but normally it disappears after a while. It can take longer depending on the pages yo visited or the speed of your drive. It can take up to 30 sec on a slow drive and lots of opened tabs.

System tray

If you take a look in your system tray, do you see a firefox icon still?

If so, close that instance and see if it fixes your issue.

Ok, next: in your screenshot, there's two plugin-container.exe processes. They may be the culprit.

that plugin-container ...

i hate it. It's usually the last thing to go. I wish I knew which plugin was always keeping it on late during shutdown! Sad

There is most likely a misbehaving add-on or local plugin that is running a function during closing. Can you try running Firefox in safe mode without add-ons and plugins and close it?

Meaning of "sometimes"

When you said "sometimes", I had taken that as more regularly than once a fortnight. This is new information. Anyway, you can try it for a while and see if it works.
