is there an opensource/freeware app that'll take a snapshot of the registry before and after an application is installed, so that one would know what registry entry has been added/modified.

Hi bob,
maybe Sysinternals Regmon is what you are looking for or Regshot from TiANWEi.

thanx a million, i think that's exactly what i was looking for. may be it'll help in some way to make apps portable. one can take a snapshot of the registry, install a software, take another snapshot. when uninstalling a software, write a batch file to delete all the extra registry entries. i know it's far fetched, but what the heck. i'm trying. comments?
Hi Bob,
this is exactly the way - a port of it - how www.portablefreeware.com is checking the portablity of applications.
See the paragraph "How do you test the programs to ensure they are portable?" at this page.
