Integrating With Gigaget

Does anyone have an idea about how to get portable Firefox to integrate with the GigaGet downloader? When trying to make it the default downloader for Firefox, Gigaget only searches for the firefox.exe file and wont recognise portableFirefox.exe??

Nope

Lurking had suggested renaming the launcher to firefox.exe. This will not work as the launcher would say Firefox was already running since it would detect firefox.exe as a running process.

Tried and Died

Yes, thanks I did try that and got no success. Will try the Gigaget froum for more help with the issue.

Here is a general warning that doesn't relate specifically to Portable Firefox, I recently installed two Comodo products on my computer, tried an install on my I-pod in my programs directory - The next time I tried to use my portable apps I found they had been deleted - ALL of them - other non portable apps I had on the drive wern't touched... it seems as though whatever happened singled out only portable apps, Clam Win, Firefox, Thunderbird, 7-Zip, Filezilla, VLC and Sunbird were all deleted - the only remnants were the folders they had been in and the .exe file. Untouched were Config inspector, Everest Home Edition, Gigaget, Index Analyzer, and Bazooka Scanner.

Any history of this happening?

Yeah

Some poorly-configured antivirus products are set to delete "infected" files without even letting you know. (How dumb is that? I mean, seriously.) You'll probably find the files in your quarantine directory or something similar. Of course, there's no virus in them, it's Comodo's mistake.

FDM Versus Gigaget

Everyone has their favourite but i just tried a speedtest of FDM v Gigaget - Tried downloading Sudoku Portable as a subject - Started Gigaget when FDM was already 42% into the download Gigaget finished in less than 10 seconds - FDM is still going (almost a minute now) Even without the integration (meaning I can't right click and "Download With Gigaget" as I can with Firefox non portable) I know which one I'll be using. I can still just drop the link into Gigagets floating download tray.

Although it's not advertised as a portable App - it works just fine from my I-pod - now if only I could rename my portablefirefox.exe to firefox.exe...
