SyncDocs 3.12 Development test 1Released 06/06/2012
Updated base app to newest version
Release Notes:Development 3 2012-04-03
At the advice of a fellow developer, this release supports the moving of the desktop shortcut cleanly if installed on a non-English system.
Release Notes:Development 2 2012-04-03
If you are one of the 2 people who downloaded the Dev 1 release you will need to manually move the Syncdocs folder from Data to the App\Syncdocs folder
Release Notes:Initial release
- I believe I have all the registry entries dealt with, as well as the credentials
- The automatic shortcut placed on the desktop is moved back and forth however I have not been able to figure out yet how to write to thte lnk file to update the drive, so AFAIK teh shortcut will not work.
- Since I did receive permission this download is the entire program and not just and online installer.
- As with all development releases I strongly suggest if you have used the SyncDocs portable version previously that you make a back up of all materials before using this version
Downloading this ther emay be an issue with driver moving Looks like I need to do 8 updates to an xml file that I did not catch previously so you might want to wait for Development test 2

with the shortcut and the xml are repaired in Development test 2

Updated portable version to coincide with base app update

Base app which now includes Google Drive
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
with this update there is a new feature to encrypt files to Google drive, apparently it is now leaving the following behind in registry
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\SDEncryptFolderCmd
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\SDEncryptFolderCmd\Command
or at least it did non my Machine with MSOffice installed on XP
Can someone confirm please also maybe check in a reg shot on Win7
My Win 7 machine has melted
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
HKCR is essentially an amalgam of HKCU and HKLM, and based on what's in the path of those keys, I suspect those are actually in HKLM.
I haven't had a chance to confirm, though.
the copy and paste directly from the registry is where I got the path names.I just need to know if they exist or not for others?
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
Per Syncdocs now Google only supports Office 2007, also fixed aforementioned registry entries left behind and cleaned up some none critical typos etc from previous builds

Base app updated.
I did not post the md5 hash as for some reason I can not get the program on ortableApps to run it in Windows 8 If someone wants to post it for me I will add it to this psot
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
Here's the MD5. I used Rapid CRC Unicode to calculate, once I figured out how to get MD5s to show up, and verified with WinMD5sum.
Hope it helps!
where is it? Did you put it in there? Cause I thought I removed it?
I was using md5hash from portable apps and it would not run inn 8

Running fine. Thanks a lot for this portable version.
for the feedback

Check the uninstall procedure. I was not able to completely uninstall the app. It leaves me with the directory \PortableApps\SyncDocsPortable\Data\My Google Docs.
Will check into why this is happening

Hi there,
Someone else having the problem that the authentication credentials are not stored?
On each restart I have to re-authenticate.
Can this be fixed somehow?
Thanks!
for you interest, I will see what I an find out as it seems to work fine for me in XP and 7 The only time it seems t lose it is on first install. I have also not had much time to develop this and there has not been much interest in it either, I do know that there are some newer versions out there as well So will keep ya posted as to what I can figure out
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
Thanks for your efforts!
I will continue testing different things and see why it loses credentials on my system whereas it works fine for you.
I have tested it on xp and 7 I am currently working on 8 and testing but due to some upgrades they made finding a few new issues as well
That being said I am unsure of how long I will continue the app supporting it as no one seems to use it besides me and you

I wonder why though.
Portable Dropbox is also very popular.
Are you aware of any other portable Google Drive client that people might prefer over this one?
As you can see in responses have had little feedback I will take a look more into issues this weekend a see what I can figure out What operating system do you use?

I use the software on public computers that have Windows 7 installed.
Let me know if you need something else!
I have tested the version I was offering again and it seems to work well. only thing I can assume is that he public computer have a lock on the registry, specifically the credential manager As that is where the info is stored and then returned to the portable drive on exit. The way I have it set up is when run again it re-writes to credential manager and then back again.... So only possible reason it not saving the info would be unable to access that area. Not sure if that can be fixed as it is specific to the machines you are using.
I am still working on updating to newer version but running into difficulties with how Win 8 is now storing credentials so may not get it updated.........
I will keep trying but no promises

Would Insync be a valuable alternative?
As of now there is no portable version yet. See this forums discussion:
https://support.insynchq.com/forums/discussion/772/portable-edition/p1
However, there seem to ways to make Insync portable:
http://paracataca.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/using-insync-without-installing...
As far as I know, the developers of Insync are open and would support a portable version.
Do you find it worth packaging?
Let me know if you need any help!
I downloaded the file from the media fire link (http://www.mediafire.com/download/fckohb2it5k32tr/SyncDocsPortable_5.1.0...) but the md5 I get is acdff4769844f8bdb90e5061a3abef3f instead of b0cd087855be0f0884b16a420d7fce25. Am I missing something?
P.S. Please don't stop the development. I for one am certainly interested in this app.
I did do an update and may have forgot to update the mdm5 and it has not been updated in some time do to lack f interest and other complexities
Edit: Double check on hd and media fire correct is acdff4769844f8bdb90e5061a3abef3f
Sorry wil fix the thread

For those taking advantage of Google's extra security options, this app will not work with 2-Step authentication.
If you're wishing this app would "save your credentials" so you don't have to login every time to use it, you probably aren't concerned with security anyway.
the credentials are stored on the usb drive....As stated previously due to lack of time and response from folks, low numbers who have downloaded etc I have not kept this app up tp date However if time permits I may try to revive it

I have installed syncdocs on my USB drive using the PortableApps platform. I have set my syncdocs google drive location to "G:\Google Drive", which is a folder I created on my USB drive. The folder location, however, repeatedly gets changed to "G:\PortableApps\SyncDocsPortable\App\Syncdocs\My Google Docs" usually after restarting syncdocs. When I run syncdocs on my computer, I do not have this problem.
Can anyone on this forum provide assistance, or do I need to post this on the Syncdocs forum?
It was set up to run from USB not from a computers hard drive, that being said I ceased development on the build since there was no interest in anyone testing it. If you wish to run it on the main computer I might suggest that you might want to install the original SyncDocs. THis basically creates a shadow copy on the usb drive. There are also ssetting syou can use within the programt to change the locale of the files to sync as well.

I understand the app is set up to run from a USB drive, and that is why I would like to use it (to avoid running google drive from my work computer). Have you experienced this problem with the sync folder location changing on its own? I would like to resolve this issue if possible -- I realize you have stopped developing this app but maybe there is an easy fix.
It is set to be stored within the portable directory of the program this is done so that when you switch drives it will always be most current as if you remove the drive from the computer an place it in another will it always be located in Drive G? Leave it alone as G should be the Apps Data Directory
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
I have tried changing the directory back to the default portable directory, but after a restart it reverts to my custom "G:/Google Drive" folder. Please let me know if you have a solution.
App from Usb stick and reinstall. I have not a clue what the issue you are describing is. THe program is meant to sync your online google drive to a usb stick. It must stay withing the file structure it is set to run in. Do not customize the entry IN fact as stated the is basically nad abandoned app as no one other than yourself has ever shown interset in it yet it was one heavily requested. THe App is out dated and has not been work on by myself in some time'

I realize that the app is outdated, but it has worked pretty well except for a couple problems and I appreciate your advice as I try to continue using it. I cannot find any other freeware out there that meets my needs.
I had one question before I reinstall: I noticed that when syncdocs is not running, all my files disappear from my local syncdoc drive on my USB. I would like those files to remain on the USB whether or not Syncdocs is running. Is this expected behavior, or could it be that this problem will go away after a reinstall?
They are in Data My Google Docs folder
