When did this start?

Has this always been the case, or was it fine until yesterday?

Do you get an error?

when you run Google Chrome Portable, do you get an error saying it didn't shut down correctly and to manually restart it?

EDIT: Forgot it wasn't PAL. Nevermind about the question.

Backup regularly

My experience is that Google Chrome is very finicky. Every now and then all extension information may mysteriously vanish or be corrupted. Where I've felt lucky is that it only occurs once or twice a month. I also haven't had some of the problems people have reported with extensions like TweetDeck which seems to work great on all the systems I've run on so far. However, every now and then boom ... all extensions gone.

The only solution I've found so far is to backup Chrome's profile storage regularly.

One tiny follow-up

I can reproduce it though by improperly closing GoogleChromePortable for example by removing the drive it's running from while it's still running or if I launch it and quickly close it before it fully loads. Both are really problems between the keyboard and chair (user error), not a problem with the application.

However, if it crashes, closes improperly for other reasons it may also lose or corrupt extension or other profile information. It could possibly be more resilient to some abnormal events.

And then there are a few mysterious events where it just goes boom.
