TeamViewer Portable

If this has been discussed on the forum please link me and I will delete this post.

I have been trying TeamViewer PortableApps and I tell you, this thing is far from portable, its no different than the so called portable TeamViewer they offer on TeamViewer.com (Which sucks), it writes to AppData, registry and who knows where else!

Can someone clarify this please?

Disabled

Both the PA.c Format and Zip download versions of TeamViewer Portable are packaged and distributed by TeamViewer themselves, not us. Both of them have all settings disabled by default (so nothing is saved) and should not leave anything behind.

We need to update their package to the new PA.c Format 3.0 anyway, so maybe we'll get their launcher up to snuff at the same time.

It leaves something behind

Teamviewer use ID s to connect someone as you know. If you change your IP adress, change your mac adress and clean the Data Folder of portable Teamviewer, Teamviewer gives you the same ID. So it understands that it uses the same operating system. If you use the same teamviewer directory on other windows machines Teamviewer gives you another ID. That means Teamviewer portable writes something on the machine. Am i right?

Calculated

That value is calculated based on specific aspects of the PC and not saved locally. To confirm, I fired up a clean Windows XP virtual machine and installed TeamViewer for the first time. It gave me an ID. I then shut it down and rolled it back to the clean snapshot (before anything has ever been installed except OS updates), installed TeamViwer and fired it up. Same ID.

Portability Solution

I managed to make it portable by using VMWare ThinApp Setup Capture.
By doing so it was locked with the ID it generated, so no matter where I take it now it uses that same ID.
The only bad side is its not updateable.

Illegal

Unless you paid around $6,000 for the cheapest ThinApp license, you're using an illegal copy of VMware ThinApp.
