Platform Pre-Release 3 seems to be still working fine for me, but
if I want to update all of the apps,
PA wants me to update the platform first.
Can I upgrade Platform Pre-Release 3 to Platform 10
without having to
download all of the same, numerous apps, &
without having to
reconfigure the platform's menu again ?
I don't mind doing a full upgrade in the future, but
so far it doesn't seem necessary.

then update the app that are needing updaing no need to reinstall apps
Sometimes
I find the term 'update' confusing.
Some companies (egs: MS, & Adobe) use it to mean
relatively small tweaks, or additions, to the software.
Other companies mean
a complete replacement (version 'upgrade'?) of
the whole software package.
Is it correct to say that
PortableApps always means the latter ?
After upgrading to Platform 10,
PA suggested that
I could 'update' ALL of my very many apps.
I said 'Yes', & then
PA seemed to download everything, again -
like a completely new installation
(which I was trying to avoid).
[Thankfully, it preserved my folder structure.]
How can one
differentiate between
minor, & major 'updates' -
to know if it is worth doing yet, or not ?

you also agreed to update all of the out of date software as well by not un-checking them. So you did not re-install anything you updated them to newer versions
Perhaps what he means is this:
Windows updates are small patches of only the part that changed,
While upgrades require a complete download of the entire install.
By design, I believe everything on Portableapps.com is the upgrade type
- The entire program gets downloaded and installed every time.
(Both the platform and the apps work this way.)
The updater system is integrated with the platform, so it requires the latest version of the platform to run - which is why it tells you to update the platform.
Updating the platform will not require you to update your other apps, however.
couldn't have said it any better ( although I tried) I think the confusion is that the way the new Platform is shipped it has automatically check for program updates checked by default?
