Java 6U31 How to use

Hi All,

I have recently seen the porableapps site and started downloading apps from it. It is really helping me a lot and this is really awesome. I have downloaded Java 6update31 from portable apps and I have extracted it to a folder in my desktop. Now how can I use it? I guess I need to change the enviornment settings and point to this folder. But I dont have access to change the enviornment variables. Now can anyone help me in how to use this java 6 update 31? when I open command prompt and type java -version, it still shows the same old version.

Thanks,
Chaitanya.

Using

How exactly are you going to use it? As a plugin for (portable) web browsers? To run Java applications?

"my desktop"!!

"I have extracted it to a folder in my desktop."

"I dont have access to change the enviornment variables."

Don't you mean the company's desktop?

Have you asked the company's tech support people for help?

Yes, it is company's laptop.

Yes, it is company's laptop. I have samsung galaxy note mobile. With our company's WIFI, I have connected to mobile and to my laptop. Using Kies software I have connected to my mobile. When I am trying to copy data from my mobile to laptop, it says Java is not installed. So I have downloaded poratable java. It is extracted to a folder. Now I am confused how to use it. Hence, I posted it here.... Can you please help?

Thanks,
Chaitanya.

why extract?

this is the installer, if you run it, it will install the java on your portable device in the right place.

If you have portable firefox or libre office, they can use it and will work with java even if there is no java on the host system.

So there is no point in extracting something, it has to be simply in the correct position on your device.

I don't think however this will support the Kies just so simple.
But surprised that Kies will ask you install java for it to run. I have not myself such phone, but the preconditions of Kies do not mention anything about java being needed for it to operate.
