After several days of trying to get this version to work, I've discovered that if the Help - Tips (for Toolbar buttons) is checked in Options - LibreOffice - General, then LO 3.5.4 becomes unusable. I don't know if I'm the only one with this or why it happens, as the non portable version on my PC at home doesn't suffer from in the same way.
This option was checked in my previous copy of LO Portable 3.5.3 and worked well.
If I've done something wrong or missed something please advise. Thanks.
I tried out my local (portable) copy with Tips enabled and it works just fine. Define unusable? If I recall correctly, they access the drive for every single hover (which is just plain dumb) so we disabled them by default as using them on a slow flash drive made the app slow. I can't recall if it was all Tips or only when Extended is enabled, though.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Sorry for delay, got dragged away last night, by unusable I mean that if I hover over a button I can count to at least 6 before the button can be selected, then when a button is selected the program can freeze for varying times with a 'Not Responding' tag in the Title bar and in Task manager, by varying times I mean 30 seconds upto an hour or so when I've given up and closed it with Task Manager. Just disabling Tips is enough for it to work again!
It first occurred after update through the PortableApps platform, but I get the same using downloads from different mirrors and clean installs to different locations. If I reinstall 3.5.3 everything works again.
(If it helps I get the same result when using stick on 2 PCs, but both are Windows XP sp3).
Cheers
Chris
