will there be a portable version of the filezilla server..
i'm setting up a connect for me and my fam. computers and we each share files, i gave them portable filezilla, and they like it because it doesnt need to be installed but they want share files like i am.. but want the filezilla server to be portable too.. it's just more conveniant to have them both portable.
There actually already is a portable FileZilla FTP server within XAMPP which makes it easy to use with web development and testing.
There isn't much call for a standalone portable FTP server, since it's really only useful for develoment. When portable, your IP address changes as you move around, rendering an FTP server much less useful. It's best to stick with FileZilla's regular FTP server for installing on a local PC.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Hi.
I use HFS as a portable solution for that kind of stuff and actually use it pretty often.
Thats due to the limit of file transfers through our email system at work.
I sometimes send a work-buddy a http://ip:xxxxx link with a different port than 80 and he can download right away through the company LAN.
Kind of handy

I agree a portable FTP server would be a very nice addition while on the road.
I know the ip address is a small problem if you were going to run it full time. It only takes a second to run ipconfig to find your address. But for a quick transfer of a few files, it would be nice.
All of my friends have a ftp program and could send files, but none of them know how to run a server.
I may try to break-out the ftp server in xampp.
Did you lock this topic?
I've unlocked it for the time being for this question.

Just wanted to toss in my 2 cents.
For the IP address issue you can always use a dynamic dns service like No-IP it free and would give you an actual address.
Hmm that gives me an idea, a portable Dynamic DNS Updater.

I made a launcher for Serv-U its fairly portable already all setting are in an ini file. Just needed to add a string replace to change the drive letter in the ini file.
You can use Universal Extractor to extract serv-u from its setup file if you don't want to install it, then just copy the files to the appropriate folder with my launcher. I am also working with a shareware developer to make his Dynamic DNS Updater portable, more on that when its finished.

I think if both of them is portable, we can work anytime and anywhere with our servers.
Sorry for the late addition I missed last post was a few weeks ago.
Serv-U Portable and Direct Update Portable can be found Here
Serv-U is free for personal use and will support up to 5 concurrent connections.
If you already purchased an upgrade of Serv-U the portable version works with your reg code.
Direct Update unfortunately is not free, but if you need a DynDns updater , it is definitely the one I would recommend and I have tried several.
