A few comments and thanks...

I did not create this launcher from scratch. Initially, I am using TaffinFoxcroft's launcher from the v2.6 Dev Test 1 release. I didn't want to recreate the wheel. I figured it would be quicker than to start from scratch. I too many problems arise, I will start completely over. I also plan on doing the v3.2.x line of Python.

What's still left to do? I'll need to make a lot of internal changes, to make this PAF 3.0 compliant. Other tahn that, I just plan on fixing probles that creep up. I want to thank the hard work of tanisthalon, TaffinFoxcroft, & Perica Zivkovic of portablepython.com, as well as others from this forum, who made this possible.

Doh!

Sorry about that. That's what I get for working on this, when I should be sleeping. Smile

Cross-Commenting

There's another Python project here that is doing something similar. Just wondering who is taking the "official torch".

Yup, I noticed

the other post a few days ago. In all fairness, I used someone else's launcher and updated python. I made a few other small changes, but nothing much. I plan on working on my copy again soon. I want to replace the launcher, and test this for PAF compliance.

I did notice that his package is far smaller than mine, however.

Corrected my downlaod

This was actually v2.7.3.1, but for some reason, I accidentally dropped the last digit. I repackaged this and posted to Box.com, as I notice my Dropbox downloads are getting too much traffic (who knew???).

This package is much larger than the other package that is out there, but I plan on working on that as time permits.

Update soon

I'm working on a replacing both of the previous launchers, and adding 3 more to make use of the full package. The reason this package is larger is because this contains glade, pyscripter, idle, and qtdesigner, as well as python. All add-ons from http:/www.portablepython.com are included. This package should also be nearly PAF 3.0 compliant. I hope to have this up within a week. Peace...

Grr

Looks like I spoke too soon. I'm having difficulty generating the 5 launchers necessary for the full package. The official launcher generator will only make 1. I'm attempting to figure this out, but wanted to warn anyone waiting for this that it will be longer than planned.

That would be awesome, I

That would be awesome, I can't wait for your releases.
Panda3D in C++ is troublesome so a portable Python is greatly appreciated.

Finally

updated to v2.7.3.2. I'd like to thank John Haller, for info on how to get this working with more than one launcher. Please note, This portable app will probably not get "official" status, as PA doesn't support multiple launchers. The only "official" app that does is LibreOffice/OpenOffice, and I believe there are particular reasons why.

Be that as it may, there is still a lot of things to do with this package. I still need to update the appicons & I need to do some clean up of extra stuff I added to make my life easier. I also have some other odds and ends to fix in this, and will as time permits.

At least now you should be able to use the full package. If anything seems broken, please let me know. Peace...

portable python

Hi:
Are you planing on including version 3.0 or 3.2 in the portable python program? Also, the version you link to says it will take up 500mb plus on my flash drive. Is that accurate? It seems like a lot.

I'm aware of two sources of portable python, one is just called portable python and is an exe. The other is winpython portable that is oriented to math and science. I'd prefer using the .paf format since it works better with my portable apps thumb drive.

http://portablepython.com/

http://code.google.com/p/winpython/

In any event, I'd appreciate hearing the present status of the project and whether it is going to be released by Portable apps.
Thanks
Jojo

Same package as PortablePython

PortablePython is the package I started with. Here are the answers to your questions.

  1. Not at this time. Doing this version took a long time, because you have to make 5 individual launchers, as if each component was a separate PAF file. At some point I may, and I already have the permission of the author at portablepython.com to do both versions.
  2. Did you see my comment here? The size is because ALL extra packages are included. That's why there is 5 launchers.

Your response

Thanks for the reply and sorry for my delayed response. This is truly a prodigious project, one that includes any package you could want for development. Thanks for pointing me to your earlier post.
all the best
Jojo

Weird

The file is still there on Box. I just verified the link is still valid. I'll try to add a mirror, but my first 2 attempts were blocked by Mollom. I've submitted a report. In the mean time, try downloading from here and let me know if that works. That is on my Onedrive account.

Thanks Again

Again, thanks. That last link did work. I'd like to work on updating a Portable Python. Any objections?

I'm thinking of doing both a 2.7.x and 3.4.x version. Was thinking I would use a stable version from a year or so back then the latest stable versions to ensure that updates will work properly. Also not sure if should put it in PortableApps\PythonPortable2.x.x and PythonPortable3.x.x directories or go for a CommonFiles implementation. Probably the first and wait and see if John and others want the Commonfiles implementation. As this is a development system, thinking that both 32- and 64-bit versions need to be included.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Regards, Dan Carroll
