(Current) Latest version of GIMP Portable chrashes for me at startup.
Changing "plug-ins" to "plug-ins_" in \App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins (aka not loading any plugins) lets GIMP Portable startup without crashes, I do not know which plugin causes it.
Edit: Probably a problem with the computer.
As GIMP Portable works across thousands of various PCs of all OS types, there is likely something specific to your setup we need to track down. So, what OS are you using and what service pack? What full path is it installed to? Is it a fresh or upgraded install? If upgraded, have you tried a fresh one? What if any plugins have you added?

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium.
SP: Unknown (Doesn't show in system propperties, so I guess SP 1?).
Full install path: X:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable.
It's a fresh install, no plugins added.
If you right-click on My Computer and select Properties, it should tell you the service pack. It will be under Windows edition. There's a line that says the edition (Windows Vista Ultimate, etc), then the copyright (2007 Microsoft Corp...) and then the service pack. It should say Service Pack 2 as that is the current SP level for Vista. If it doesn't say a service pack there, then you are running RTM aka the original Vista release, which is no longer supported. SP1 isn't supported any longer either (Microsoft dropped support for it over a year ago). You should upgrade to SP2 as soon as possible so that things will keep working right and your PC isn't vulnerable to nasty things.
All that said, I checked it out on my Vista test environment installed to C:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable and it works just fine. So, I'd wager your machine is just out of date and a bit wonky as a result of not updating.

You probably are right, it's a work computer that is like never updated...
If it's a situation like that, they're likely not managing it from a central location, so you should try and get it updated. Talk to your IT guy about it and see if they can update it. Or, if you have permissions, ask them if you can update it. Nothing special, just using the Windows Updater. Without that, it's incredibly vulnerable.
I'm going to close this ticket as this seems to be the issue. If you can get it updated and that isn't the issue or if you figure something else out, please report back and we can re-open it.
