This release has been superseded by GIMP Portable 2.8.2 which contains these fixes
I've posted a a new test build of GIMP Portable to fix a couple bugs. The bugs in question are:
- [Bug 32259] GIMP Portable 2.8.0 Rev 4 - help browser doesn't work
- [Bug 32262] GIMP Portable 2.8.0 Rev 4 - Unknown image file type errors
This build should fix both of those issues. It also introduces the ability for GIMP Portable to detect and associated fonts in the PortableApps.com Platform on a fresh install (not upgrades) when the PA.c Platform isn't installed to the root of the drive.
Please test and report back

Hi, John. I notice that the file "recently-used.xbel" is created and left behind in "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local" after using GIMPPortable_2.8.0_Rev_4.paf.
This file is handled by the 2.8.2 release and paths within are portablized.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks, now everything is fine.
I wish there were an option to have the components non UPX'ed. The difference when GIMP opens is noticeable and it's a p.i.t.a to go through all the folders and decompress all exe and dll files...
Use the PortableApps.com AppCompactor, select the GIMPPortable directory and select DECOMPRESS.
The plug-ins are not compressed as that slows startup. There should be no appreciable difference once running and there isn't on any of the machines I've tested on.

Thanks for the suggestion; I had completely forgotten about AppCompactor.
And you were right. The slowness comes from fonts and stuff not being cached.
