In the file open dialog Gimp creates thumbnails for all clicked pictures (at least after click in the right sidebar).
The installed StandardGimp (Win 32, Vista) saves it for future use usually in the userdirectory on harddrive c:
Gimp portabel saves and keeps thumbnails correct separated in its own directory: GIMPPortable\Data\.gimp\.thumbnails\normal
But when closing GimpPortable, all saved thumbnails of the installed StandardGimp (wherever stored) are deleted!
A not really critical bug, but sure a not intended interaction with the hosting computer. I think portable apps should never kill any data from regularly installed software on hostsystems!
It's a configuration issue in the launcher. I've marked this as a bug and will have it fixed in an upcoming release.

With the recent advent of Incremental Update Support, this bug would be a good candidate for a "Revision 2" incremental update would it not?

Good call, as the rev 2 would be only a few hundred KB for current users. I'll see how time looks tomorrow for pushing it out.

This is fixed with today's GIMP Portable 2.8.2 Rev 2 release. Local thumbnails are now properly preserved.
