Firefox and pen drive

Hi

It happens that since Firefox 13.00 I cannot use Firefox anymore on my pen drive.
I download it on a computer, make it work; then I copy all the directory on open drive and move it on another computer, but at this stage it doesn't work.

Any help?

thanks

Have

you tried downloading it to your computer and directly installing it to the USB drive?

a) I downloaded firefox to a desktop connected to internet and installed there; then I copied it on a pen drive and moved on another computer

b) I directly downloaded firefox to a pen drive and installed in there and then copied to another computer

In both cases it doesn't work (but it works on the first computer and on the pen drive till it is connected to the first computer)

Thanks

usually

you would download the installer install it to the pen drive launch the Firefoxportable.exe file and run the application. Then just insert the pen drive in second computer and run it from there on second computer. AFAIK it is not meant to copy from computer to computer but to be run fromt he pen drive.

Don't

You should not run Firefox.exe directly or associate it with any files. As the readme.txt file right in the App directory says: "The files in this directory are necessary for Firefox Portable to function. There is normally no need to directly access or alter any of the files within these directories."

Use the portable

You SHOULD be clicking on FirefoxPortable.exe.

Clicking on Firefox.exe runs the "ordinary" Firefox and does not get any of the portable features you want.

I mentioned this

in my second response to you, apparently you missed it. To keep it portable you run the file firefoxportable.exe

Reply; wrong folder

1. Who are you replying to?
2. If FirefoxPortable.exe is not being copied, then you're copying the wrong folder. Try copying the FirefoxPortable folder.

Yes, it's sometimes a bit confusing with drupal, but normally the other way around.

Actually, he shouldn't be

Actually, he shouldn't be copying the FirefoxPortable folder around at all.

FirefoxPortable.exe doesn't just delete itself. You probably have a faulty anti-virus that's deleting it without telling you.

I would delete that anti-virus with Firefox.. grrr...

Sorry for the mess. When I

Sorry for the mess.
When I say that firefoxportable.exe disappears I mean that I click on it and then the firefox logo appears, and nothing more.
After that I tried with the other firexof executable. But I repeat, older firexof releases work well.

your mess started

when you started the firefox.exe instead the firefoxportable.exe

So now:
make sure that all processes of whatever firefox... are closed.

fresh install firefox portable onto your usb stick

launch firefoxportable.exe and WAIT!!!! until firefox appears. This can take some time particularly when run from relatively slow usb stick.

If you want run it on other computer, CLOSE firefox and what ever other programms are running from that usb stick and remove safely the stick.
Insert it to other computer, wait until windows assigns a drive letter and then again you can run firefoxportable.exe

Make sure all other firefox are closed before trying to run firefox portable.

That's not possible. You're

That's not possible.

You're giving us conflicting information. You said "FirefoxPortable.exe isn't there anymore". However, you're still seeing the splash screen, which doesn't make sense.

I suggest doing a re-install and see what happens. Just download another copy and install over it. It'll detect that as an upgrade and preserve your files.

That's true I'm giving

That's true I'm giving conflicting information. But I didn't know how to express myself about "splash screen" which is exactly what disappears after few seconds.
I tried 4 or 5 times the installation; I did it with firefox 13 to firefox 16, and none of them work. Firefox 11 is ok; it works. I dind't try with firefox 12.

Can you reproduce this issue

Can you reproduce this issue on a clean install? A clean install as in a brand new installation in another folder without pre-existing settings.

OS

Still need a response on what operating system and service pack you are running. Also the exact full path you are installing to.
