Is it possible to password firefox so people cant just open it and use it? the reason i ask is because i like to save passwords.

This is the function of the Master Password under Security options.
Note, however, this will only keep someone from using your FF with your passwords. Only encryption will keep someone really determined from getting at your saved passwords through more roundabout methods.
All data protected by the Master Password function is stored in signons.txt, which is encrypted. Domains are not encrypted, but username and password information is.
