Launchy Portable

Launchy is a great file/application launcher that would be great for a thumbdrive here is the site: http://www.launchy.net/. Please make it portable since all you have to o is set up keystrokes and you can launch something with those strokes.

It already is.

On page 3 in the readme file, the first thing under "Advanced Options" is "USB Stick", followed by very straightforward instructions.

There are two Launchies ;-)

Hi Ryan,

the Launchy you have mentioned is the (not portable?) firefox extension found here.
And then there is the already portable standalone program Espreon is asking for - URL is in the first post Wink
Using simple descriptive names for applications is leading to confusions sometimes Wink

Anywhere?

All it takes is clicking a check box in Launchy and copying the directory to your USB drive. If you can get admin privileges on any computer for even 5 minutes you can get it.

I've been playing with it...

Launchy seems really cool, except for a couple of things. First, I couldn't get applications to launch in USB mode. The issue is that Launchy seems to use absolute paths in its config files (D:\Programs\foo.exe instead of ../../Programs\foo.exe) Some digging around on the launchy site showed that this has been a problem for a while, the devel knows about it, and has been working on it for a while.

The other problem is that there is no way that I can see to tell Launchy to open bar.doc with OpenOffice Writer Portable, instead of $#!+soft Word. Slightly annoying for those of us who would like to use our PortableApps.

third thing is just a comment (and therefore, should belong on launchy's forums, but hey! hopefully nobody will kill me for going just a bit OT). I'm a linux shell junkie and it would be awfully nice if launchy worked like the linux shell did:

vlc The-Wires.mp3

should open Jan Morgenstern's The Wires song in VLC.

writer government-classified-document.doc

should open a document that has fallen into the wrong hands. Et cetera.
As far as I can tell, this only works for

google | PortableApps

and

weather | 53706 [zip code for which we'd like to see the weather]

anyhow, just thought I'd share my thoughts on Launchy, seeng that I've been doing a lot of playing with it.
