Thunderbird 16.0.1 automatic updates -- will this cause trouble for the portable version?

I updated a normal install of Thunderbird this morning. Afterward, I was met with a notice indicating that going forward, Thunderbird updates will happen automatically. I want to know if this is likely to cause difficulties for those using T-Bird Portable.

Thanks,

demlv

Disable

As always with portable applications, we recommend that you disable in-built update mechanisms. In this case, go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Update, and de-select Thunderbird.

Notification of T-Bird portable updates?

I never knew about the option to disable update checks. Very informative.

I always liked getting the update notices in T-Bird portable. I would normally wait a couple of days after seeing them, then come here and manually update. I guess those days are gone now, though. With T-Bird trying to update itself completely without my intervention, I suspect that things could get screwed up pretty easily.

Is there some way to be notified when T-Bird portable updates are made available?

Platform

Your best bet is to use the PortableApps.com Platform. It will automatically let you know when your apps have updates and let you update them with a single click.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
