Hi, since a while I get empty mails from some senders. It started before the last software update. When I switch the view to html they get visible, but view as text they are completely empty, also when I use the quote for reply.
I've compacted folders, updated the software, changed character encoding... to no avail.
What could be the reason for this?
tnx

oh I should add, if there are multiple recipients or an imap account, everyone else can see the mails as text, only I can't.
Under settings->disk space, do you have "do not download messages larger than" checked and set to a value. I have found that certain types of messages appear blank under this condition.

Thanks for the tip, I've just checked, but it isn't ticked in any of my email accounts. Thanks anyway!

if it is from only some senders, then the problem might be well on their side too.
Often this happens with mails from some webmail services or more often with some newsletters etc. The mail has to contain the text version and it has to be marked as such in the source. The conversion does not take place in the mail client on receiving side but on the sending side.
If the sender does not include the text version or the text version is not properly marked , the text will not be displayed.
Apart from that, one can also select white chars on white background, well then all is there but rather difficult to see

Aha! I didn't know, that the format comes from the sender, I thought I can always view everything as txt only even if someone sends html. That might explain it then. The strange thing is only that via IMAP my colleage can see and read the same email as txt that I can't see.
thanks

you can view the message source in Thunderbird.
There you should see that the mail comes in two versions. One would be plain text (should come first), the other would be the encoded html version.
If the text version is in the source it is also important that it is properly declared there.
It is mandatory for internet mail to contain the plain text version if there is some 'higher' formating included.
There are however mail creation services which do not comply with this basic requirements. Those are programs used by spamers and similar, but often now also mail clients on smart phones do not comply with elementary e-mail rules.
