I have an iphone4s and tried downloading minecraft free version and it won't save each session i play, anyone tried this app before?

and i deleted and re added the app several times but each time i lost the game. is it because its the free version? i have full version on my laptop so maybe i will just buy full version for iphone. it just seems like it should be workable.
