I know this is probably a dumb question, but here goes:
I just installed Portable Apps. When I am on the central screen, there are two buttons, bottom right. One closes the App. What is the other for -- the "up arrow"?
I've tried everything but the right answer...

It's for ejecting your drive. That button exits the platform, just like the exit button does, then it runs an ejection utility included with the platform. If you're using the platform on external media, it's quite handy. However, if you've installed the platform locally, not so much. There's a feature enhancement coming in the future that will change how that button works.
