Flash Install not Working....

Can't get Flash working for the life of me... Here is what I've done:

  • Copied NPSWF64_11_3_300_257.dll and flashplayer.xpt to both:

    • \PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\plugins
    • \PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins

(I saw a few mentions of the \data\plugins folder in the forums, so I created the \data\plugins folder since it didn't exist)

  • After the above didn't work, I changed plugin.scan.plid.all from true to false, to force Firfox to look solely in the plugins folder.

So far, I can't get any flash to load. However, it does work in IE. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I've got both the 32 bit and the 64 bit version in the folder, just in case.

Yes, but it still does not work....

I have tried copying the files you posted, along with other files I believed may be the issue, but nothing works.

What's interesting is that under add/remove programs, I see Flash is installed. Flash also works in IE, so I know it's there on the system.

I also have the Flash files in the Data/Plugins folder (the Firefox flash files, not the IE version), but Flash still does not work. Kinda annoying.

I'm wondering if it's because my portable Firefox is labeled FirefoxPortable.exe instead of Firefox.exe. If I have it labeled Firefox.exe, the network will not allow it to run. Therefore, I had to rename it.

Flash for IE is not Flash for Firefox

What's interesting is that under add/remove programs, I see Flash is installed. Flash also works in IE, so I know it's there on the system.

There one version of Flash for IE (Active_X I think) and another version for other web browsers (Plugin ?) and when you go the the Adobe Flash install page it will (should) detect which version of Flash your web browser needs.

You can try going to the Flash install page with Firefox and see if will install the the version it needs.
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

or you could go to Adobe's Flash Player Distribution page and download it manually

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

good luck

...

I realize I had conflicting information there, I knew one version of Flash was meant for IE, and another for Firefox, but then I posted the conflicting statement.

Anyway, I can't install from Adobe, since that installation attempts to write the files to the System32 directory. I need the files on my external HDD...

Thanks for the help. Any other ideas?

copy -paste

is well known function of windows, so why not to use it?

that is the way we all copy the flash files to the external drive, so where is the problem?
We all install it from adobe to the system32 and copy it from there.

You can also download the archive files from adobe, they come in zip format and get the files from there.

But pls make sure that you go and read all the recent threads abt flash, as there seems to be some problems in freezing browser etc with some more recent versions.

I have done exactly that....

Thanks Otto,

But I have done exactly that. I took the recent files from my system32/Mozilla/Firefox directory and copied them to the data/plugins folder. I have also copied the files from the wow64 folder, since I read something about Firefox now requiring FlashPlayerPlugin_xxxxx.exe, and that is where I found the appropriate file.

I'm not having an issue with the browser freezing, or anything to that extent. Flash simply does not work...

Well, thank you for the help Otto.

works here

on my side I have copied only one file, and this is the 32 bit dll. Nothing else and all works.
Have tested on virtual machine now where no trace of flash has ever been.

The freezing problem is more in cases where the dll is in the portable version and in the local version (system) as well and there it seems some freezes come up.

the files are rather in
system32/macromed/flash then in Mozilla etc.

You can get the pure 32bit files either from a 32bit machine (w7 or XP etc)
or from development archives from adobe, those are zip files.
You will find when searching around:

Otto, Thank you for helping

Otto,

Thank you for helping me out and testing that.

Are you saying if I get the files from the system32/macromed/flash folder on my 64-bit machine, they will not work because they are not the 32-bit version? I am using the portable apps on 64-bit machines, so I figured there wouldn't be a problem there.

I believe the network here is not allowing the dll files to run properly. I've been using Chrome, which works fine since the Flash is already integrated. However, I am a Firefox fan at heart. Smile

take the 32

take the 32bit, as this is sure it works with the portable firefox.

As I mentioned, there is currently some problem with freezing flash and firefox when flash also installed local.
The problem seems not to be so serious when just the portable version is used.
And yes, just take the 32bit dll from where ever you get it and try.
I have only the dll installed, nothing else. Nothing else is needed.

Otherwise you can make a test with some older dll and see how this works.

It works on my side.
