mailto links

hello!

i have set Firefox to open MAILTO: links with Thunderbird (to the relevant Options entry)

when i click a mailto link in my portable firefox, while thunderbird is not running, i am asked to create a new account in thunderbird for newsgroups, instead of composing a new email

when i click a mailto while thunderbird is running, it correctly opens a compose new email window

any idea?

thanks!

Thunderbird Portable

You need to set it to open ThunderbirdPortable.exe. Not Thunderbird or Thunderbird.exe.

Conflicts perhaps?

I'm not sure it is feasible to to permanently record such a thing.

But when you select "Thunderbird" as your e-mail handler, Windows looks at your system:
– If Thunderbird Portable is already open, Windows considers that you already have a version of Thunderbird open and cannot open a second one.
– If not, it tries to open the non-portable version of Thunderbird you have on your computer. Even if you don't have a non-portable version, Windows still tries to find your preferences in the normal places (C:\Users\you\... It doesn't find suitable preferences and therefore ask you to define an account.

So as you have guessed, assuming Thunderbird (and Firefox) have been chosen as default applications, things will work perfectly as long as you have them already opened.

Use Other

You should not have Thunderbird Portable or any other app register itself with Windows. It registers the copy of the app inside the portable app and will run in local mode.

You can set Firefox to use ThunderbirdPortable.exe by selecting Other and browsing to it:

dont get it

you mean that such action has impact to the host system ? (ie. it alters it, it maybe become disorganized after moving the portable app, etc)

or you mean that such action has impact to the portable app itself? (ie. it somehow forces it to store crucial data outside its folder that will prevent it from continueing been portable, etc)

PS: btw, how do we quote here? and how do we set to autoreceive email notifications?
