Welcome to the December 2012 edition of the PortableApps.com Newsletter. The platform has hit 11.2 and 12.0 Beta is now available, lots of new free apps have been released, donation appeal results and ongoing donations and more. So, let's get to it!
==== PortableApps.com Platform 11.2 Update ====
Since our last newsletter, the platform has been updated to 11.2, adding in autorun.inf infection detection, drive error checking, app descriptions in tooltips and more. And, of course, it has all the other great features including a built-in app store, updater, portable font support, categories and more. If you're not already using it, we recommend upgrading:
==== PortableApps.com Platform 12.0 Beta 2 ====
We've released the first betas of the 12.0 Platform release. The beta channel features a completely rebranded menu, updater and app store with subtler and smaller logos as well as a simple, modern theme with an updated look and icons. We also added in manual proxy support for folks who prefer to manually set it as opposed to the automatic "it just works" default mode. We'll be adding in custom themes and automatic and manual file associations soon, too. Download the beta 2 release and get the details on the 12.0 release schedule here:
==== Another 43 new apps and more on the way ====
Since our last newsletter, we've released another 43 new apps. All free, legal and just a click away in our app store. Not to mention automatically updated by the PortableApps.com Platform. Everything from new antivirus options to great new games, system utilities to icon editors, ebook editors to password managers and lots more. See them all here:
==== Our Donation Appeal And The Future ====
With the 11.0 release, we asked you to help out by making a donation. And you were so committed, you helped fund PortableApps.com's hosting and bandwidth for September and October, the first time in our history we didn't have to dip into private funds. And we'd like to thank everyone who donated. We'll be updating our sponsor pages with all our new benefactors soon and including them in 12.0 Beta 3 shortly.
We're still working hard to bring you great free apps and we can still use your help to do so. Our bandwidth costs alone have tripled in the last year due to our growing userbase and the expanding freeware selections available in our app store and automatic updater. Please help keep PortableApps.com free and growing by reading and donating today.
That's it for this month's newsletter. We hope you enjoy the new platform beta and have a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!
All the best,
The PortableApps.com Team
