I have been editing a presentation of text, images and videos on a CD which should run under present and future windows versions starting from Windows 98. The programm "CDMenuePro" from http://www.cdmenupro.de/ has been used (30 days free trial version available) for this work. This has an imbedded video player which looks rather old and not accepts new compression codecs like MPG4.
Thus I installed VLC Portable 2.0.5 on this CD.
However there are problems when running a video from this CD.
under Windows 98 : not accepted by VLC Portable
under Windows 2000 : a VLC logo appears and disappears, no video
under Windows XP : OK, however very long loading time
under Windows 8 : VLC opens, sound plays, however no images, blue VLC window.
Is there a solution for all these problems ?
Thanks for help.

VLC2.0.5 problems on windows installations
Like most software, VLC long ago abandoned windows 98 and 2000. as for running from CD, I'm not sure if VLC Portable's live mode still works or not. It should. have you tried running it directly without using a proprietary menu to start it? is it set in live mode?

I fear not being able to respond correctly to your demands
and would prefer to mail a CD containing CDMenuePro with inside VLCportable to your postal address
(which I don't have)

We don't provide assistance like that nor do we support troubleshooting proprietary menus unless you are partnering with PortableApps.com for a custom solution.
We dropped live mode support (live mode = run from CD/DVD) for VLC Portable some time back. The code to copy it to the local PC and run it is no longer included, so whether or not it works from a read-only medium is up to VLC itself. We will likely restore partial support for live mode once it is converted from using the custom launcher it uses now to using the PortableApps.com Launcher as it has some support for live mode internally.
