Can't run two instances of PortableApps at the same time, except Firefox (Iron wanted badly) Updated!

You couldn't run two instances of Firefox Portable before, from 2 directories side-by-side:
FirefoxPortable1
FirefoxPortable2
Now it seems to be this problem is solved.

Updated!
I still can't run two instances of IronPortable from separate directories like:
IronPortable1
IronPortable2
Can you?

I got this error message: "Whoa! Iron has crashed. Relaunch now?"
More on Iron, here: https://portableapps.com/node/36036

Another, slightly similar issue with softwares like KeePass and GPG4USB: When I run either KeePass 1.x/2.x or GPG4USB as a 1st instance downloaded directly from their respective original servers, the portable version in both cases (http://keepass.info/download.html, http://gpg4usb.cpunk.de/download.html), THEN as a 2nd instance, run the PortableApps version, get the following error message:

"Another instance of [software] is already running. Please close other
instances of [software] before launching [software] Portable."

This one might be about the registry issue John, you mentioned below? OK, this second one is not that important, but Iron would be pretty nice if I could run two pieces if it separately.

Base App

It's entirely up to the base app. If the base app can truly support it, we do. If it can't, we don't. Apps that use the registry can't.

Here is my observation,

Here is my observation, again, in a short, clear form: I found there are apps that are portable by default, can run in two separate instances, for example:

- KeePass 1.x
- gpg4usb

I also found the exact same apps don't run when implementing the 'PortableApps' platform format. Strange.

So do you say it's because they use the registry? OK. But why do these same apps run 'portable,' but without the 'PortableApps' implementation?

Two Copies

I just ran KeePass Portable a 2nd time and got a 2nd copy of KeePass running. So, I can easily open two different DBs at the same time. gpg4usb isn't an official app and I can't comment on it.

inaccurate observation

I have tested both KeePass Password Safe Portable 1.25 and gpg4usb, whereas both apps were implemented in the PortableApps.com format.
And in both cases the apps are able to run in two separate instances. For this examination I have used my virtual machine, in which Windows XP SP3 is installed.

Thank you for your

Updated the 1st post for added clarity.

Iron (the crucial one) still doesn't work, KeePass and GPG4USB doesn't run simultaneously from their original portable install AND 2nd, from the PortableApps.com install.

Sorry for the confusion.

impossible by default

You have described the case, where you want to run a locally installed version (the original portable version) and a portable version (created via the PortableApps.com format) of the app simultaneously. But this scenario is by default impossible. Below I have created for the app gpg4usb a modified version, that works with your described case.

Download gpg4usbPortable_0.3.2-1_English.paf.exe

@tapsklaps
Thanks for your help so much!

But how about my main question? Can I run IronPortable1 and IronPortable2 (both are the PortableApps versions) at the same time? It seems I cannot which is not cool. Sad

Quick question, just for reference

Does IronPortable1 and IronPortable2 (PortableApps.com version) run for you simultaneously from 2 separate directories?

It definitely works with the SRWare portable version.
