This was going to be a post about SIW and SIWPortable version 2011-10-29 not working on Windows 8.
But maybe we should have a larger discussion about what to do about highlighting OS limits on different softwares (at the old end or the new end) as we stumble across the glitches.
I know in the past there has been much concern about the end user getting something that won't work (such as requiring .NET). I view this as roughly equivalent.
A larger discussion is likely unnecessary as so little app-wise has changed under the hood from Windows 7 to Windows 8. SIW is the first I've heard of an app here not working on Windows 8. The only reason it doesn't work is because the publisher has apparently restricted it to not work on Windows 8 (requiring you to buy SIW Pro). There's nothing in the app itself that is incompatible.
We'll likely be pulling it from the directory and relegate it to depricated status as a result unless the publisher releases an updated version.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Yeah, I saw on their web site that they seem to be very interested in selling the new version. They must have been planning this for some time if they included Windows 8 restriction code in the 2011-10-29 version.
