This neat application says it can be installed on a USB but when i did it i thought it put something in the registry. I'd be grateful if you could have a look. Perhaps someone knows a better application but this seemed neat for my uses. be great to add something like this to the PortableApps.
Thanks
Hi Jesse,
at www.portablefreeware.com you can find real portable alternatives like FastStone Capture or
FGWndGrab.

many thanks for your suggestion. I tried the FastTone and found it a bit too complicated for my needs. I'm just about to try FGWndGrab.

Hi James,
I use FastStone Capture very often and if you set it up once then it is just shooting screenies
In settings:
o choose filename template
o check mark automatic file generation
o choose screenshots directory
o choose output format
rightclick tray icon:
o choose "to file"
That's it - just press "PrtScr" to take a whole screenshot or Shift+PrtScr to capture the active window or CTRL+PrtScr to capture a region of the screen.

I tried the FastStone Capture a while back now i remember but i think it was the version that seems to be integrated within the FireStone Viewer. I downloaded the new 'standalone' one on your recommendation and it is "great". I'm building an education website at present and wanted a way of quickly putting up answers from a large pdf file. A snapshot is ideal as quality isn't absolutely key. I do all the snaps and then edit the file name - very nice and easy. I did wonder if the saving straight to pdf was a good idea - the quality i think seems to be less than a gif or jpg. I do have an editing program for copying pages from a pdf but it doesn't seem to work that well.
After trying all three the firestone would seem to be the best one - truly portable being the other great plus.
thanks
James
