Notepad++ not starting anymore

Hey all,

I have a problem when trying to start notepad++.
A message opens containing the following text:
"Another instance of notepad++ portable is starting ...."

Well, there is no other instance starting, reboot does not solve the problem, renaming the folder or reinstalling the portable app doesn't work, too. So I think the app must have written some file somewhere, but I cannot find it.

Can anyone give me a hint where n++ instances register when starting?

Thank you.

Delete File

It crashed at some point. Go into your Data folder and delete the runtime INI file.

I already did

I installed from scratch. Deleted the old folder. Restarted my computer. Even installed a new one onto desktop and tried to start this one. Any version reports the same error, so somehow the instances seem to check something in the filesystem or the registry, but I cannot find any trace.
Sad

What Else Running

What else is running? Any antivirus/malware? Any oddball Start Menu replacements?

This sounds suspicious

daphunk - this sounds rather similar to the problem I've just started seeing with Chrome (posted February 7, 2013 - 10:15am ): probably unrelated but a bit suspicious all the same!

Antivirus...

Avast Antivirus is running, but notepad++ doesn't start if Avast is deactivated either. Well, I found out that notepad++ is also offered without installer from the notepad++ website so I'm now running this version. No problems.

Another issue which occurred to me (and others I know): Libreoffice 4 won't start (for me in Windows7, others in XP), saying "Libreoffice needs Windows, on your PC Windows ? is running" Weird. It is actually working in Administrator mode OR on a Windows 8 PC in normal mode from the same usb drive.

Adding the chrome problem (which luckily doesn't happen for me) maybe something changed in the (newer) launchers?

NTFS

Is the drive formatted as NTFS? If so, have you ensured that the whole thing is set with Everyone having full rights?
