Is there any way to restrict the result of searches of the forum by date? Generally, results from 2005 are not as helpful as someone might think.

you know what would be even better? sort by date (or better yet, sort by user chosen variable :))
Well, not sure if that is actually better. But it is more flexible.
as a workaround I know Google (and probably most other search engines?) can be told to search a particular site, and then you can use the search tools options to restrict the search to a particular time frame.
eg: If I wanted to search for "Firefox", I would type into google
and then use the search tools options to refine the search by date ...
.... however, looking stuff up for this post I find that if you put numbers in the search box separated by two full stops "..", it will include *all* the numbers in that range into the search.
And as all the posts on the site usually have the year in them ...![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
If I do a google search for:
google shows me all pages it can fine on Portableapps.com that include the word 'Firefox' and have either 2008, 2009 or 2010 on them, which one way to search this site within a date range.
(got that tip from this page: http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/1264/12-Quick-Tips-To-Search...)
It may not be what you are asking for, but hopefully it helps.
