I know, it's been brought up before, but...

Please don't just tell me it's not possible, but how would I go about making a launcher for either Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger to make it portable? I'm not planning to distribute either program in a package or anything of the sort, but I wish to make modifications for my own personal use.

Is there a way to make one of these portable, without altering the original programs, therefore not crossing legal lines? Again, I'm not planning to make a distribution, and since I'm stating it here, no one on this forum can be held accountable for steering me in the right direction. I would appreciate any help you guys can provide Smile

Where can I start? What would be the best way to go about doing something like this? I'd appreciate meaningful responses please, if you're just going to tell me to forget about it, please don't post. If no one posts at all, that will be enough for me to get the message Smile

The short of it all...

Q. "...how would I go about making a launcher for either Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger to make it portable?"

A. You would have to research some very deep hooks into the sysytem in adition to having admin privs for running said "portable app" because of said hooks. Could be a reason people say it can't be done. Wink

Q. "Is there a way to make one of these portable, without altering the original programs, therefore not crossing legal lines?"

A. In a word, leagally... no.

Q. "Where can I start? What would be the best way to go about doing something like this?"

A. Google. Research your system. Play (safely!) around! There's no substitute for personal experiance.

And on another note... "I'd appreciate meaningful responses please, if you're just going to tell me to forget about it, please don't post. If no one posts at all, that will be enough for me to get the message...
"

Hope this helps...

Thanks

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the responses Smile Now I think I have a good idea where to start Wink

BTW, though, I've found through my experience Google is not always a good way to solve a problem... Unless you already know what it is your looking for, you can't find it there.

Really glad..

it helped. And, yes, lol, I am. My tower is temporarily dead... and I chose to spend my meager income on a MacBook rather than get the WinTower fixed. Wink Took a major bit of change though, and a bit og frugal living, lol.
