"Our Team" page

I waffled about whether to put this in General Discussion or Off Topic, but figured as this applied to the site, this is best.

I had a thought recently, that it might make sense to clean up the "Our Team" page by adding a "Past Contributors" heading, and moving those contributors, be they Developers or otherwise, who are no active in working with the site in some fashion, so as to provide a more accurate picture of the number of current contributors to the community.

For example, when it comes to developers, I know for a fact that although there are 48 individuals listed as being developers, a number of those have ended their involvement with PA.c, and there is currently a much smaller number of active developers at this time.

Likewise, the same can be said of some of the other categories.

With that said, obviously the behind-the-scenes people at the top continue their involvement, and as far as translators are concerned, it's hard to tell currency with so many people being involved in translations.

I myself am willing to work through the list and figure out those who are no longer current, specifically developers, as that is the area I am most familiar with, but I am happy to work through other areas as well.

Thoughts?

Yes

The idea sounds nice but it takes time I am unsure if its worth it.
But if we/the community do the legwork, then I would support it.
All sections but the translators are partly outdated. Some like Patrick,Steve or Ryan do deserve a hall-of-fame-entry, even if they are no longer involved.

EDIT:

To get the smaller things done:
Website Administrators:

Current:
Chris Morgan
Retired:
Marko Moeller
Ryan McCue
(I am a bit unsure about Marko as he was very active but I am unsure if he is still around)

Forum Moderators:

Current:
Chris Morgan
Tim Clark
Zach Thibeau

Retired:
Marko Moeller
Patrick Patience
Ryan McCue
Steve Lamerton
(Maybe we could get some new Moderators?)

Designers:
Retire them all as the new Layout is "around the corner" (TM)

Developers / Moderators

Simeon, I agree with your breakdown completely, with the exception of Tim Clark - is he still active? Also, I believe John is looking into updating the moderator list in the nearish future - We have been bringing it up every now and then for him.

Here's my breakdown of developers. I may have miscategorized some developers, but I think it's pretty accurate. Unfortunately, some of the devs listed as retired are newish to developing, but have stopped developing or supporting the apps they portablized, so they're classed as retired as a result.

So, based on this breakdown and your numbers, we currently have (including John where appropriate): 21 developers, 2 website administrators, 3-4 moderators, no designers, and a wackload of translators.

I also have a re-working of translators coming, that breaks down translators by language.

[EDIT] On second thought, barely any of the translators are linked to profiles, so I can't tell who's translated what language, which is how I was going to rework it.

How far out of current are we

How far out of current are we calling retired?

I haven't seen anything from Erik Pilsits or Michael Secord since mid-November from a brief check of their forum history (unless they are active in chat or just behind the scenes).

Also, I somehow think Simeon is still active....

Oops

Michael Secord is still active, at least on irc, and i'm sure he looks through the tracker on occassion. Erik was one of those ones I wasn't sure about.

Simeon - Oops, I had you as current, must have copy/pasted together with some others.

[EDIT] As far how far out of current - I was considering if John or another dev has had to take on the responsibility of updating someone's apps, then they're likely not current. With that said, it's hard to search back through user trackers to tell.

looks good

maybe we could add a reason for retirement to the list? Or you could make notes why you put someone in a category?
I just think it would be nice to know the reasons, although I know that it would add workload to updating the list. Maybe keep it hidden somehow so only the person who is updating the list can see it.

Contributors credit names

Hello Gord!

Team list show a project contributors credit names, this not a employees list or payroll. Evaluate contributors individual activity is very difficult. These data are continuously become outdated.

Maybe is better if create developers subcategory - Testers? There are many untested developments. For example Nettalk - IRC chat client, lightweight like Sumatra PDF among the PDF readers. But is no response.

Donations are very important for existence of the project. Here are used many payable services, more than you can imagine. John's calls for donations must be taken very seriously. Maybe should create Donators page?

It would be good if here have a Wiki for software users, developers and translators.

Little offtopic, dont get confused. Smile
A bit about EnglishGB translation, there are some mistakes.

If is used Ini Translator, then in translation is created with unnecessary empty lines at the end of each section. In original locale file is only one at the end of each section. Except the last one, here are no empty lines. This unnecessary lines can be removed with text editors.

Missing one necessary empty line - 236 at the end of FORM_OPTIONS section (before FORM_ABOUT section). Translated locale file should be just as line sequence and number as original locale file: 373.

In translation has not been updated some strings, information about them you will find in this comment (8 strings with changed content ...). Two strings - 84 and 235 (2. and 6. from 8 in comment) already updated.
But need to be update six strings more - 76 (1.), 85 (3.), 88 (4.), 89 (5.), 256 (7.) and 257 (8.).

One more string - 232 for translating remained in FORM_OPTIONS section:
ADVANCED_BOLD_FAVORITES=Bold Favorites

In going through the official

In going through the official releases to compile the dedicated developer list I've found a few devs you missed:
computerfreaker
agdurrette
LOGAN-portable

and a potential dev:
OopsSPC (Not officially a dev - authored Sigil but not seen since)

didn't miss all

Josh S = computerfreaker
Jan Albartus = LOGAN-portable
agdurette isn't listed on the "our team" page either, oddly enough, so that's why he was missed.

As for OopsSPC - Doug Akins had also made a Sigil portable build prior to John releasing it, but as John never made OopsSPC a dev (and they haven't returned to the site since), I wouldn't list either of them as the dev of Sigil.

Ahh, I followed the links

Ahh, I followed the links from the usernames and didn't see a real name for either, so hadn't associated them.

Will update the list to normalize both of their names.

Should you use their real names?

It may not be good idea to use the real names if it is not supplied in the devs profile?

Just surmising out loud Wink

It amazes me that on the internet you can be anything you want, and yet so many people still choose to be idiots.

Real Names

They are provided if the dev places them in the profile or in the package's copyright. We require real names for some submissions (platform, updater, installer and launcher work) for legal reasons.

Fair enough

I just figured that in an age where privacy is such a concern, it may be better to err on the side of caution.

Nothing New

There have been people worried about using their real names online saying it was 'an age of privacy concerns' since I first got online in 1993. Sure, it makes sense when participating in a random online forum, posting about something politically/personally/socially sensitive, etc. But we're now in the age of real names (see Facebook, Google+, etc) where if you don't use your real name, what you have to say carries less weight.

Agreed

I agree whole-heartedly, and personally would not mind if my full name were to be used. There are however those who care very much. I just assumed that if they did not care, they would put their real name in their profile.

To be clear, I did not bring this up to say it was not being done correctly. It was simply a thought that others may care to remain "hidden", and I put that thought down in a post. I appreciate any forum where civil dialog can be had, and appreciate you taking the time to respond.

EDIT: Just checked my profile, and my name is not displayed either, guess I'm a little hypocritical. ;-(

EraseDrop v2.1.0.0 by Eric Pilsits

Noob here. I'd like to now if I got to the page that developed EraseDrop v2.1.0.0
<question does this version work on SSD's? If not ok. If so ok. I just would like to know.>

Thank you.
