Hi,
I received my beautiful PortableApps USB key.
Is it possible to install Ubuntu OS and PortableApps on the same USB Key?
I wish I could run Ubuntu on any PC or run any Portable App on a Windows OS but with only one USB key. Do you think I can do that. With partitions?

for ubuntu you make partitions with ext3 or ext4, make the stick properly bootable and for portable apps you can make a fat32 partition. As ext4 partitions are not readable by windows, the only windows readable partition will the fat32 one and will be picked up by windows.

I believe the FAT32 partition would need to be the first one (Windows doesn't recognize anything but the first, IIRC).

If ubuntu supports FAT partitions and can boot from one than you only need one partition on the USB drive. However, if the install requires formatting the drive be sure to backup the PortableApps folder before installing ubuntu.

There are a few different methods for doing this at http://www.pendrivelinux.com/. I use their YUMI installer, which can put multiple Linux distros on one drive, but I don't think it supports persistence for Ubuntu. They do have a special tool for Ubuntu, though.
Thank you all
