Hello,
Has anyone looked at making a PortableApp version of KiCad? It is a GPL electrical engineering tool for generating schematics and printed circuit board designs.
Its home is http://www.kicad-pcb.org
Thanks for your feedback,
Jeff

I have seen a "Development Test Release" of KiCad Portable (I actually have it installed with my PortableApps), but I can no longer find the thread. Does anyone know about this project? Has it been depreciated?
Here is the text from my installation's AppInfo.ini file:

Looks like the files linked to (above) are an in-progress version that is not much more than a modified version of the PortableApps template (i.e. it's missing the exe file). Are you (or were you) working on making KiCad portable?
So I've went ahead and tried to learn how to make an app portable, and so I've made a copy of KiCad Portable. I'll post a link as soon as I figure out how to upload it to Sourceforge.
Any luck? I would really like to have KiCad portable...
Oh, yes, here's where I'm at: I have a test release of KiCad Portable, and was about to upload it to Sourceforge, but I noticed that there's already a project there called KiCad Portable. So I wasn't sure what to do. Create a new project? If so, what should I call it?
I managed to download that development version of KiCad Portable when I saw it on the site. I noticed that you have a (Newer?) version but have not uploaded it to sourceforge due to there already being one there. could you just send me a copy to my email address OR just upload it to sourceforge with a different name like KiCad Dev Portable or just KiCad B Portable? I'm actively using the old dev version. Just want to see about an upgrade if available. Thanks.
Yes, I've completely neglected to continue work on this. I'll find that old version and try to upload it sometime this weekend. I'll post again here after I do.
Thanks for your reply. I was just checking to see if you might have found the old (updated?) version yet? Anyway thanks again for your reply.
Sorry, I've been bogged down this weekend. I'll try to find it tonight.
I found my version, ready to upload, but it looks like someone else beat me to it. The link is: https://sourceforge.net/projects/kicad4-portable/
This version is 4.0.4. Mine, which I never uploaded, is 4.0.1. The latest (non-portable) version from http://kicad-pcb.org is 4.0.5. So perhaps it would be better to use this version instead of mine?
So now, what do we need to do to get this released?
I contacted the author of the KiCad Portable found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/kicad4-portable/ asking if they intended to submit it for beta testing on PortableApps.com. I'll post again if they reply.
If I do not receive a reply, I'm not sure what to do. Can I submit someone else's work for beta testing and ultimately for hosting on this site?
The author replied to my email, saying they intended to submit KiCad Portable for Beta testing when they returned from holiday. They didn't say when that would be.
I have released a modified version of 4.0.5. See: https://portableapps.com/node/55837
