How about a portable version of the first Homeworld game?
They did release the source code after all, and said it was "partly" open source in the least (not sure if thats even possible...)

According to the licence under section 1.1(b) you are only allowed to distribute the game to registered members of the Relic Developer Network.
Are you sure it isn't out dated? Its open knowledge on the Relic forums that the source code can be tamprered with because they "partially released it open source", two years after HW 2 (to the delight of many modders)

1) That licence agreement specifically talks about the Homeworld source and is linked directly from the Homeworld SDL project which was set up to port the Homeworld source to other platforms - so it is not outdated.
2) That site does not host a built Windows version - only Linux and Mac.
3) Relic's official site does not host a free version of Homeworld - they just link you to buy it from Amazon.
Unless you can find a licence agreement that specifically supersedes the one I linked stating that free distribution of a built Windows version is acceptable (and can find a built, supported Windows build of Homeworld), then it isn't going to happen.
