I'm glad I read Kowalczyk's blog on this version history. The latest CPUs support SSE2 instructions, so I'll stick with 2.3. You might want to also.

SSE2 wasn't in 2.2.x, it was added in 2.3, a lot of people found Sumatra PDF no longer worked, 2.3.1 was released to remove it again. It won't be added back in again anytime soon. And all the features and bug fixes post-2.3.1 won't be ported back to that single SSE2-enabled 2.3 build.
