Data recovery

Well, I just got bit!

Plugged my SanDisk U3 1GB Cruzer Micro into my computer at work today and got.
-launchpad password box popped up and allowed me to enter my password.
-next message said drive F was corrupt and needed to be formatted before use.
-the launchpad would not open.
-I can open the drive F and see the files, but cannot launch any programs or copy any data.

I am attempting to use Drive Rescue v1.9d Drive Rescue v1.9d

Any other advice?

UPDATE
Making progress. I am going to check with U3 community forums to see how to re-install the U3 on my drive. The only program I really need there is Signupshield. It works great with IE and FF. I may have to go back to Roboform though if I cannot re-install U3.

The Drive Rescue v1.9d works great except you have to be careful not to try to copy corrupt files because it will freeze on you.

PS. Does anyone remember the trick to stop the launchpad from launching. I just want to try anD format the drive.

Update

Got as much info off the drive as I could. Both the FF and TB profiles were corrupted. Lost all the email I had. Luckily I was able to recover the bookmarks, signon, and cookies from FF profile.

Formatted the data partiion then reinstalled the U3 launchpad to the drive. Still does not seem to work right. Uninstalled the U3 with the U3 launchpad. I'll try to test it out and see if I can really get it working again. Would not trust it though anymore. I will definitely be using the PortableApps Backup program from now on!

BTW - U3 Community forums suck!

This goes out to everybody

It's been posted many times here before, lets make it a habit of backing up regularly. This sort of things tend to happen, and you never know when it will happen to you. I'm glad at least you (wsm23) where able to recover most of your stuff.

Yep

When I started reading about U3 in this web page, I decided to completely uninstall it. I've never regretted doing it, and now I'm much happier with what I have now.

Too late. I'm done with U3

I only really used U3 for 1 program, which is Signupshield. I switched to Roboform on another drive. The drive I was using is toast. Even if I could get it kind of working, I would never trust it again.

When I started to have problems the whole fake partition thing got really goofy and was difficult to recover from.
