new to portable apps. I downloaded portable vlc to play a series of MOV files in my possession.
When I play these files I only have audio, no video. I have tried playing with the settings in tool/preferences, with no joy. I thought it may have been the files, so I downloaded the quicktime alternative codec. I can play these files successfully on my pc since downloading quicktime alternative through IE browser.
I'm running Windows 7 SP1 - 64bit.
Any help to get these files to work will be appreciated.
A lot of MOV files are proprietary and won't play in anything except Quicktime. That's why it's not a recommended format like MP4, MKV, MPEG, etc. Likely, whatever proprietary codec these specific MOV files use is not compatible with VLC. You can try the local version to be sure it is specific to VLC.
Then you can try one of our other video players to see if it happens to be able to play them like MPC-HC or SMPlayer: https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for your prompt reply and suggestions.
I have a BETA version of VLC on my android device, with the same result; sound without video - so it is probably the proprietary thing that you mentioned.
I'll try one the other apps you suggested and see how i go.
