Hi:
I have Mozilla Thunderbird installed on my PortableApps platform. It works fine as an email client. I set up my email client and it gave me a lot of useful options and control.
However, it is just an email program. There seems to be no way to add extensions like Lightening or do anything else. I must be missing something here and would appreciate it if someone can clarify why my application is so limited.

Press the ALT key on your keyboard to see the menu. Then click Tools - Add Ons. You can browse and download available extensions in there. Or simply visit the page and download it in your browser from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lightning/
After downloading, drag the file to your AddOns window in Thunderbird.
Yes, it is counter-intuitive. They never got around to adding in the 'Thunderbird' menu in the upper left like Firefox has.

Your reply was spot on. I clicked alt, and like Magic, the file etc tabs appeared. I clicked on tools, then extensions, then Lightning and then the option of installing Lightning into Thunderbird appeared. I chose to install it and it went smoothly and quickly. I love it when software works in a straightforward manner, with the emphasis on both works then straightforward.
I've become a Thunderbird fanboy and continue to be a PortableApps fanboy and appreciate the timely and high quality help I get from you and the other moderators in the forum.

And one note of addition. Thunderbird has a menu button. It's the 3 horizontal lines at the right edge of the toolbar. Add-ons is accessible via that as well. I happen to still use Alt out of habit.

For the future I recommend you the usage of the Thunderbird help. You can find this help about the 3 horizontal lines at the right edge of the toolbar. That's indeed a very fundamental and extensive orientation in a lot of questions.

Hi tapsklaps. I tried to find help when I first opened Thunderbird but couldn't find it until I learned the "alt" trick from John Haller. I'm a big fan of RTFM myself and plan to use the help file first for any other issues before I come to the forum for help. I know we all are pretty busy and respect the value of everyone's time.
