Request for app - NirSoft

I have recently started using NirSoft and it's a great combination of utilities. I think it would be a great add to the portable apps community. Here is a link to the site and downloader: http://www.nirsoft.net/ http://launcher.nirsoft.net/

Please search

Please search before you post. There is already a development version of the app available here. It is unlikely it will ever be official, but the maintainer does a good job of keeping up to date.

Why unlikely

That it will ever be official? Is it because it updates ~weekly or because many AVs report it as malware? Just curious...

Both

AVs reporting as malware is a hassle for us and our users and can cause issues with software blacklisting our site. That's why we don't accept new AutoIT apps and discontinued DShutdown Portable. Additionally, weekly updates for freeware is a non-starter as that's all bandwidth I have to pay for.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks!

Good points, John! So, is Prapper's Dev Test costing you bandwidth? Or would it only be if it got officially released? Will Calibre likely never be official either since it also updates about weekly?

Live Installer

The package is open source and does a 'live install' of NirLauncher. We usually like to package the app in so users don't have to go through that unless licensing requires it. I think we have permission for NirSoft apps.

WSCC - Windows System Control Center

There is an alternative to having Nirsoft in paf maintained by PortableApps by using WSCC of KLS Soft.
The tool is available in paf format on their website and integrates Nirsoft, Sysinternal tools and Windows' own tools in one shell.
The tool itself tells you when a newer version is available which is not as good as having it updated through the PA-updater, but it is workable.
The tools has its own update mechanism for all the tools of the three "suites" (Nirsoft, Sysinternal, Windows tools), which checks for updates after pressing the UPDATE link.
It then produces a list view of what updates are available and allows you to unselect the the tools you don't want updated before you proceed.
The updater also spots new tools and will offer you to install them along with any updated tools.
You'll find it here:
http://www.kls-soft.com/wscc/index.php
The WSCC UI also does quite a good job of giving you some idea of what all these tools can do for you because there are so many it's hard to keep an overview.
The tools you use regularly can be added to a favorites folder which makes accessing them a snap and there is a search function, too.
I find it well done and little to ask for.

"I find it well done and little to ask for." I second that.
