Hi,
Is Firefox portable traceable? If I use this browser on my work computer and send email through this browser will 'IT' be able to track me, the places I visit and email I have sent with this? Howabout Thunderbird? I am not sure about this and need to know for sure. I know Firefox leaves no trace of personal info but can someone tell if I was using the application at all?
Thanks for your help-

If you are using a work computer, you are almost certainly surfing through a Proxy Server. As a result, your IT folks can see everything that goes through the Proxy. You may not be leaving large tracks on your local PC but, you will be leaving tracks elswhere.
Furthermore, your IT folks may have restrictions on running software that hasn't been "blessed" by them. Even though the Portable versions of many apps will clean up the Registry, evidence may remain that they have been executed, at least. So, you may be found out that way. It all depends how vigilant your IT Department is.
If you want true anonymity at work, you shouldn't use *any* work resources. If you have a personal cell phone, sign up for the data services and use your phone's e-mail client or a webmail account. If you have a greast need for e-mail and surfing, you might want to invest in a Treo or Blackberry.
I know, I've used both devices because, I *am* one of those dreaded IT people. And, believe me, we *can* see a lot that most people don't think about.

Dan
Thanks Dan-
That's what I figured..... Our IT department is vigilant. Not so concerned but there are times when I need to do some things at work like Bank statements, email, etc. that I do not think are my company's business. It's not a company wide thing its more my department.
