Hello,
Just as I was browsing using the latest Firefox Portable, a new Tab opened up with this page:
http://www.iobit.com/update/sd/index.php
Update to Smart Defrag V2.9.0- Now Easier, Faster and More Accurate!
(I have taken a screenshot of it in case it disappears)
First of all - I do have SmartDefragPortable, but haven't used it in ages, definitely haven't launched it today - absolutely, positively certain of it!
So how in the world does a portable app, that hasn't been opened (in ages!) force my browser to open up a page?
That's very concerning and seems like SmartDefragPortable has installed itself in places it shouldn't have.

First off... take a breath.
No need for VIRUS in all caps and 3 exclamation points. Viruses are specific very nasty things. This clearly isn't one. If anything, this might be a scheduled task left behind to check for updates automatically by Smart Defrag. Which isn't a virus and doesn't warrant a full-on freak out.
What it is, is a scheduled task pointing to the Smart Defrag Updater. I've worked up a full bug report with a temporary solution here:
https://portableapps.com/node/38222
I'm working on a patch now.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Sorry and thank you for responding! I actually thought if it does this kind of stuff it might be doing something else as well.
Again - thank you for taking the time to calm us and work out a solution!
I think their scheduled task is once again sending me to their ads:
http://purchase.iobit.com/2013/christmas/index.php?ref=sdxmaspop&from=other
It popped an ad and when I clicked the Close X inside it it opened the above web page.
I'd consider this behavior pretty intrusive and don't think such apps have any place here.
In this regards - how can I check what did this - I didn't have any of their programs running at the time of this?
